How Pushpinn handles your data

This Privacy Policy describes how Pushpinn ("we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use https://pushpinn.com (the "Service"). By signing in, you acknowledge this policy.

1. Who we are

Pushpinn is a check-in app operated at pushpinn.com. For privacy questions, contact jonkhoo@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google, we receive identifiers Google provides for OAuth, typically including your name, email address, and profile image (if available). We use these to create and maintain your account and keep you signed in.

Location

With your browser's permission, the Service reads your device location to show nearby places and to record check-ins. Location coordinates are sent to our servers when you load nearby places, search, check in, or save a private place. We do not continuously track you in the background beyond what your browser grants for the page you have open.

Check-ins and places

We store check-ins you create (including place id/name, category when available, coordinates, and timestamp) and private places you add (name, coordinates, optional notes). We use this data to show visit counts, day and week streaks, history filters, and your history map. Private places are visible only to your account.

Technical and usage data

Our servers may receive standard request logs (such as IP address, user agent, and URLs) needed to operate and secure the Service.

3. Analytics (signed-in users only)

After you sign in, we may use Google Analytics to understand how the signed-in product is used (for example, which pages are viewed). We do not load Google Analytics for visitors who only see the login page and never sign in. Google may process analytics data under its own terms and policies. We configure analytics with IP anonymization where supported.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies or similar storage required for authentication and sessions. After sign-in, Google Analytics may set additional cookies used for analytics.

5. Map and place datasets

Nearby public places are served from a local copy of the Overture Maps places dataset on our servers. The history map may load map styles and tiles from OpenFreeMap and/or OpenStreetMap (and related open map tile providers). Those providers may receive technical data such as IP address when your browser requests tiles.

6. How we use information

We use the information above to:

  • Provide sign-in, nearby places, check-ins, streaks, and history
  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Understand signed-in product usage via analytics
  • Protect the Service against abuse and outages

7. Sharing and selling

Pushpinn is not a monetization project. I am not building this to make money off your check-ins, and there are definitely no plans to sell any data this Service generates — if it ever generates anything anyone even wants. If that somehow changed someday, nothing identifiable would be sold or shared for that purpose: no names, emails, account ids, or precise personal location histories packaged as "your" data for buyers.

In short: we do not sell your personal information. We share data only as needed to run the product with:

  • Google — authentication (and Analytics after sign-in, if enabled)
  • Infrastructure providers — hosting this website and database on cloud infrastructure
  • Map tile providers — when your browser loads the history map

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the Service or people's safety.

8. Retention

We keep account, check-in, and private-place data while your account remains and as needed to operate the Service. You may request deletion by contacting jonkhoo@gmail.com. Server logs are kept for a limited operational period.

9. Your choices

  • Deny or revoke browser location permission
  • Sign out of the Service
  • Request account or data deletion by contacting us
  • Use browser controls to block analytics cookies (may affect measurement after sign-in)

10. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). Do not sign in if you are under that age.

11. International users

The Service may be hosted in the United States. If you access it from elsewhere, your information may be processed in the U.S. or other locations where our providers operate.

12. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy when the Service changes. The "Last updated" date below will change when we do. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
